8/31/13 Feather River Salmon Fishing

Today 8/31, we fishing the Feather River between Gridley and Oroville. The river was full of fish, however, they didn’t want to bite very well. The warm water and boat traffic made the bite tough. We managed one fish and had 4 other grabs before calling it a day. Most of the guys we knew on the river had about the same results.

8/30/13 Salmon Fishing Sacramento River

We spent most of this week on the Sacramento River below Scotty’s. We had pretty consistent action each landing an average of 3 fish per day, they were all nice bright big fish. For us, plugs were the top producer this week, we did boat a couple on Pautzke Cured Roe. Our best plug was a Yakama Bait T-60 Flat Fish in the double trouble color. Bigger seemed to be better. We have been using the Berkley IM8 Air (Buzz Ramsey series) Rods and have quickly fallen in love with them. Great value and a great rod, they have been flawless so far. On Friday 8/30 we took one of our good clients Dan Wolfe out for his 75th birthday. Dan landed a nice salmon and his buddy Walt Hodnett, 87 nailed his two fish limit on this trip. After fishing we found some shade and pulled out a birthday cake for Dan. John Enos of Big John’s Guide Service and his clients joined us for birthday cake on the river.

8/28/13 Lake Tahoe

Over three months ago we booked a fishing trip for a Vietnam Veteran’s Group having a reunion in Lake Tahoe. We had enough anglers to fill two boats, we got Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’s Guide Service to help us out. Unfortunately, there has been a couple of fires, the American Fire and the Rim Fire, so Lake Tahoe was very smokey. We gave the men the option to cancel but they were troopers and still wanted to fish.
We launch out of Cave Rock at 6 AM and headed towards Camp Richardson. The Kokanee were down between 90 and 110 feet, we used a variety of Dodgers and Spinners and Shoepeg corn cured with Pautzke’s Fire Cure. A few Kokes were already starting to turn red. Despite the smokey conditions it turned out to be a great day, the wind came up and we were just a couple fish shy of our limits for everyone.
